The Inheritance That Cannot Be Earned
Reading: Romans 8:14-17 | Ephesians 2:8-9

Devotional: The rich young ruler asked what he must do to inherit eternal life. The word inherit is significant. An inheritance is not earned through performance. It is received because of belonging. You do not work your way into a family; you are born into one. The Gospel declares that through faith in Jesus Christ, you are brought into the family of God, and the inheritance of eternal life is freely given, not because of your merit, but because of His grace. Discipleship is costly, and following Jesus requires surrender, but salvation itself is a gift. The Father gives freely to those who come to Him with open and humble hands.

Reflection Questions:
In what ways have you been tempted to approach God as though your standing with Him depends on your performance rather than His grace?
How does the image of God as a Father freely giving an inheritance to His children change the way you relate to Him?
Practical Application: Spend time today meditating on what it means to be a child of God rather than a servant trying to earn favor. Write a brief prayer of thanksgiving for the inheritance you have received through Christ, and identify one way you can live today from a place of belonging rather than striving.
