The God Who Loves the Undeserving
Reading: Jonah 3:1-5; John 3:16; Romans 5:8

Devotional: The most staggering truth in the book of Jonah is not the fish. It is that God loved Nineveh. He loved a city so saturated in brutality and evil that its reputation had spread across the ancient world. He loved them enough to send a prophet, even a reluctant one, so that they might hear and repent. This is the same love that sent His Son to die for people who were His enemies. God's love does not wait for people to become worthy before it reaches toward them. It reaches toward the unworthy precisely because they are unworthy. That includes Nineveh. That includes Jonah. And that includes you.
