Fixing Our Eyes on What Is Eternal
2 Corinthians 4:17-18; Romans 12:1-2

Devotional: Paul describes his sufferings as a "light and momentary affliction" producing an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison. This is a staggering statement from a man who was beaten, imprisoned, shipwrecked, and rejected. His ability to call his trials light and momentary was not denial — it was perspective. He had fixed his eyes on what is unseen and eternal rather than on what is seen and temporary. This is the final and most powerful weapon against losing heart. When eternity comes into focus, the trials of this life do not disappear, but they are rightly sized. One day, we will stand in the presence of God and see clearly how every valley, every hardship, and every moment of suffering was woven into something glorious. We will not wish we had endured less. We will worship the One who never left our side.

Reflection: What would change about how you respond to your current struggles if you viewed them through the lens of eternity rather than the lens of the present moment?

Practical Application: Read Romans 12:1-2, which calls believers to be transformed by the renewing of the mind. Write out 2 Corinthians 4:17-18 and place it somewhere you will see it daily this week — on your mirror, your desk, or the lock screen of your phone. Allow it to reframe how you see what you are walking through.
