Pressed But Not Crushed
2 Corinthians 4:8-9; Philippians 4:11-13
Devotional: Paul does not pretend that suffering is painless. He was afflicted, perplexed, persecuted, and struck down. He felt every weight of those realities. Yet in each case, there is a divine "but not" — not crushed, not in despair, not forsaken, not destroyed. This is not the language of someone who avoided suffering. This is the language of someone who walked through it and discovered that God was present in every step. The pressure was real, but so was God's sustaining grace. You may be in a season where the weight feels unbearable, but the same God who sustained Paul is sustaining you. You are pressed, but you are not crushed.
Reflection: What trial or pressure are you currently facing that feels as though it might crush you? Have you allowed yourself to be honest with God about the weight of it?
Practical Application: Read Philippians 4:11-13, where Paul describes the contentment he found in all circumstances through Christ's strength. Journal about one specific way you can choose to trust God's sustaining power today rather than giving in to despair.
