Devoted to the Word
2 Timothy 3:16-17; Acts 2:42

Devotional:
The first mark of the early church was their devotion to the apostles' teaching. This wasn't casual interest or occasional attendance—it was continual, focused dedication to God's Word. The Greek word for "devoted" suggests persistence, an unwavering commitment that shaped their daily rhythm.

Consider what devotion truly means. It's not merely reading Scripture when convenient, but allowing God's Word to become the foundation upon which everything else is built. Just as the early believers prioritized teaching above all else, we must ask ourselves: What holds first place in our spiritual lives?

Paul reminds us that Scripture is "breathed out by God"—it carries His very life and power. It's profitable for teaching (showing us truth), reproof (showing us where we've missed the mark), correction (showing us how to get back on track), and training in righteousness (showing us how to stay on track). This complete package equips us for "every good work."

When the church is devoted to God's Word, everything else flows from that foundation. Ministry becomes biblical. Fellowship becomes meaningful. Worship becomes authentic. Without this devotion, we're building on sand.

Reflection Questions:
What competes with Scripture for your daily attention?
How can you move from casual Bible reading to devoted study?
What would change in your life if God's Word truly had first place?
Practical Application: Commit to spending time in God's Word each morning this week before checking your phone or turning on the news. Start with just 10-15 minutes if needed, but make it non-negotiable. Let Scripture set the tone for your day.
