Learning to Listen When God Responds
Reading: 1 Kings 19:11-13; Jonah 4:4
Devotional: God responded to Jonah's anger with a quiet, probing question. He did not condemn. He did not shout. He simply asked whether Jonah's anger was right. This is often how God speaks into our disappointment, not with dramatic displays but with a still, small voice that requires us to slow down and listen. Elijah, exhausted and despairing under a broom tree, experienced the same gentle approach from God. The Lord met him in his weakness and asked, "What are you doing here?" God's response to our pain is always purposeful. The question is whether we will be still enough to hear it.
Practical Application: Set aside ten minutes today in complete silence after reading Scripture. Ask God to speak to you, and resist the urge to fill the quiet with noise or activity.
